Course Description: AP Studio Art

This highly individualized, college-level art course is designed to give advanced art students a forum for developing their specific interests, skills and conceptual sophistication in their chosen area. Through interaction with students and artists working in different media, this course stimulates students to think about a variety of possibilities in the world of artistic expression and the common principles at work in them all. The course provides the opportunity to broaden one’s studio experience through specific conceptual projects. In addition, students will deepen their understanding of the creative process by creating a series of pieces investigating one theme. The course also provides the opportunity for young artists to learn to express themselves powerfully and clearly about their own work. Documenting and archiving one’s work is another important component of AP Art. The course culminates with the building of a high quality AP portfolio, evaluated by the College Board.
