Course Description: Jazz Ensemble 1 and 2

Jazz Ensemble 1 and 2 are performance oriented classes. Through the study and performance of a historically representative selection of jazz, students will gain knowledge of the evolution of styles, genres and social/cultural roles of jazz in America, as well as the musical skills, both theoretical and technical, required to perform the music.

Through the in-depth study of jazz in this manner, students will gain insight into artistic processes (creativity, pursuit of mastery) and their relationship to cultural/academic study at large, while also developing crucial communicative, critical, and analytical abilities.
