Course Description: U.S. History

History 11 is a course designed to provide Dunn students with a comprehensive overview of American history. Characterizing what falls under this category will be an ongoing question our class will grapple and strive to answer. To help us in our definition, we will use Eric Foner’s text Give me Liberty! along with a myriad of primary and secondary sources to craft our informed understanding of this question. We will begin our survey by examining who the “first Americans” were and follow American history, with a particular eye on social history, up until the late 1980’s. If time permits, we will press onward into the not-so-distant past; however, students should be prepared to explore, read, and discuss events from this time period.
