Course Description: Conceptual Physics

The goal of this skills-based course is to prepare freshmen for the rigors of upper division science courses in high school and college by teaching them essential scientific and critical thinking skills. Throughout the course, hands on activities are used as tools for discovering relationships between experimental variables. A modeling approach is used wherein students devise and utilize experiments to determine relationships for themselves.   Upon completion of this course, students should be able to devise and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret experimental results, compose clear and concise laboratory reports in a standardized format, use dimensional analysis for conversions, create and interpret graphs, and understand the relationships between physical phenomena, graphs, and their corresponding algebraic counter parts.
