College Counseling

Dunn’s college counseling begins in students’ 9th grade year and advances through 12th grade. Students learn the universe of colleges, and begin to discover and document their unique talents and interests. In students’ junior and senior years, the college counselor helps each child develop a well-thought list of colleges and present their strengths and achievements in compelling college applications and essays.

Other college counseling highlights include:

  • Personal approach to college counseling
  • Admission visits from 40 universities to Dunn School each fall
  • Mock application panel with college admission officers
  • College tours to the SF Bay Area, Southern California, and Pacific Northwest
  • Interview skills development
  • ePortfolios to track students’ best high school work
  • SAT and ACT tests administered at Dunn School
  • Young alumni forums where college undergrads share advice
  • Parent talks on college admission trends, athletics, financial aid and more

Dunn aims to empower each student to identify the best “right matches” for him or her. We provide personalized support and believe the process is most successful when students take ownership. Going to college marks a student’s transition into adulthood and separation from family. Ideally, parents should be involved but not in charge.

Dunn’s college counselor visits over 30 colleges each year to maintain relationships with admission offices at universities throughout the country and overseas. Dunn is a member of ACCIS, NACAC, and WACAC.
